Razor Shears

Hybrid blades that blend razor softness with scissor control.

Razor shears use micro-serrated or channelled blades to mimic razor softness while giving you the security of a scissor grip. They're brilliant for lived-in texture, dry cutting and clients who hate obvious layers, and they reduce the risk of over-texturising fragile ends.

Where razor shears shine

  • Lived-in layers: Feather out the perimeter without the sharp lines a standard scissor can leave.
  • Dry cutting: Glide through brittle or curl-prone hair without snagging.
  • Damage control: Remove fuzzed ends or chemical damage gradually instead of chopping.
  • Fringe softening: Create airy curtain fringes with fewer passes.

Spec the right pair

  • Blade design: Look for channelled or micro-serrated blades that are removable for sharpening.
  • Edge type: Convex primary blade with a razor channel on the secondary blade keeps cuts clean.
  • Handle: Offset or crane handles support neutral wrists during long strokes.
  • Size: 5.75" to 6" gives enough stroke length for fluid motion.
  • Steel: High-carbon or powder steel resists dulling when used on dry hair.

Watch-outs

Razor shears can chew if you rush. Keep sections small and maintain light tension. Replace or sharpen the razor blade when you feel drag. And never use them on extremely compromised hair without a backup plan—sometimes a clean reshape is safer.

Maintenance drill

  1. Brush hair and product residue from the channel after each pass.
  2. Oil nightly, focusing on the blade groove to prevent rust.
  3. Check the blade cartridge monthly if it's removable; replace at the first sign of dullness.
  4. Sharpen with a tech who understands razor hybrid edges to maintain the channel geometry.
