How We Choose and Check Our Guides
By SalonScissors editorial team Updated
Here’s how our guides pick scissors and check their facts.
What goes into a pick?
A pick compares what you’d check before you buy:
- the hand, size and handle the listing offers;
- the edge, steel and blade length the maker publishes;
- the price on the day we checked, and what’s in the box.
Each pick gets one reason and one thing to keep in mind. The “How we chose” line near the top of each page says what we compared and when we checked prices.
What does a pick card show?
Mina Umi Hair Cutting Scissors
Best for a first pair on a budget
The photo is the catalogue photo from that product’s listing. The name, price and link come straight from the listing when the site is built, so the card shows the same price as checkout. The “Best for” line is ours.
Where do the facts come from?
- Prices, options, hands and sizes come from our product listings, the same ones checkout uses.
- Blade lengths, steels and care steps come from the maker’s own spec or care page, linked beside the claim.
- Hygiene rules come from the health department, such as NSW Health.
If a maker doesn’t publish a detail, we leave it out and suggest you ask us. We never fill a gap with a guess.
Photos, diagrams and AI images
- Catalogue photos show the real product. Our banners lay those photos side by side, resized but not retouched. A family photo can show a different size or hand from the option named.
- Diagrams are our own drawings. They explain a feature, such as a handle layout, not a particular model.
- AI-generated images set the scene on a few guides. Each one is captioned “AI-generated image.” and never shows a named product or teaches a technique.
Who writes the guides?
The SalonScissors editorial team, which is part of the store. We use AI tools to help draft pages and to make the labelled AI images. The facts on each page come from the listing or the maker, linked where it matters. We don’t claim salon testing, reviewer scores or customer quotes we haven’t got.
SalonScissors is one of five related stores run by the same seller. Our store directory names them, alongside other Australian stores.
Found a mistake?
Email hello@salonscissors.com.au with the page address and what looks wrong. A link to the maker’s page helps. We’ll check it, fix what’s wrong and update the date on the page.
Common questions
Why do your guides only pick from your own range?
Because we can check the exact option, price and photo against our own listings. If you’d like to compare other shops, our store directory lists Australian scissor stores.
Do you test the scissors you recommend?
No. We don’t run cutting tests, so our picks rest on maker specs, the options we list and the price. Each page’s How we chose line says so.
How do you keep prices right?
Pick cards read the price from the product listing every time the site is built, and the How we chose line gives the date we last checked.
Why are some images labelled AI-generated?
A few guides use an AI scene for atmosphere. It’s captioned “AI-generated image.” and never stands in for a real product or a technique.
