How do you keep scissors dry in a humid salon?
Moisture and product left on the blades make a good pair feel rough, and Joewell warns that moisture left after cleaning can cause rust. Dry every part after every client, and store the pair closed in a case when the station shuts:
- Blades
Wipe each blade from the pivot out to the tip, with your fingers away from the edge. On a thinner, clear the hair from between the teeth.
- Pivot
Brush out hair and product where the blades meet, then dry it before the pair goes away.
- Oil point
Oil where the blades cross at the pivot only if your model’s instructions call for it. Some pivots need none.
- Tension screw
Leave it as it is unless the maker’s instructions explain the adjustment for your model.
- Rings and handles
Wipe and dry these too, then store the pair closed in its own slot or sleeve.
Humidity doesn’t change when to sharpen. If they fold or push hair after a clean, check the tension first, then book a sharpen.

You don’t need a council licence to cut hair. Brisbane City Council says hairdressing services such as cutting, styling and colouring need none. Salons must still follow Queensland Health’s infection control guidelines for personal appearance services, and council may inspect.
