Yasaka’s left-handed cutter is a true lefty with an offset handle, in three sizes at the same price. Here’s which one to pick.

How we chose: Sizes and blade lengths from Yasaka’s LEFT model pages and our listing, checked 15 October 2026. We sell this scissor and haven’t run cutting tests.

What does each size give you?

Yasaka gives each LEFT size a page of its own. All three are SUS440C steel.

SizeBladeOverall length
LEFT 5.050 mm134 mm
LEFT 5.558 mm141 mm
LEFT 6.068 mm160 mm

Look at the jump from 5.5” to 6.0”: half an inch on the name, but 10 mm more blade. If you want real extra reach, that’s where you get it.

  • Overall length: the inch size
  • Blade length: pivot to tip

The inch size is the whole scissor. Makers differ on whether a finger rest counts.

The blade is the part that cuts. Two pairs with the same inch size can have different blades.

Which size suits your work?

  • 5.0”, for detail. Fringes, around the ears and short graduated work, where tip control beats reach. Keep in mind: you’ll take more closes across a wide section.
  • 5.5”, for everyday cutting. One-length cuts, layers and point cutting with one pair. Keep in mind: on long hair you’ll make more closes than with the 6.0”.
  • 6.0”, for longer sections. Long layers and wider sections in fewer closes. Keep in mind: even 6.0” is short for a lot of scissor-over-comb.

Left-handed barber? Look at the Joewell LSF Lefty in 6.5” or 7.0” instead.

What else is it like?

Our listing describes an offset handle, 440C stainless steel and a slice edge. It’s one cutter per order, with no thinner. If you want a matching left-handed thinner, our left-handed thinner guide has four.

How does it compare with other left-handed pairs?

It sits in the middle of our left-handed range. Joewell’s LC LEFTY 5.5” has level rings and a 56.5 mm blade for A$479, and the FX LEFTY 5.5” has Joewell’s 3D handle and a 54 mm blade for A$749: the FX LEFTY guide lines them up. On a tighter budget, the Ichiro Rose Lefty is one 6.0” size with a convex slice edge:

Common questions

Is the Yasaka LEFT a true left-handed scissor?

Yes. Yasaka makes LEFT as its own models, and our listing is left-handed only. You can’t order a right-handed one by mistake from this page.

Which size should I pick if I’m not sure?

The 5.5”. It’s the middle of the three and covers most salon cutting. Go shorter only if detail is most of your work.

Do all three sizes cost the same?

Yes, A$449 each. Choose the size from the option list on the product page.

Does it come with a thinner?

No, it’s one cutter. Our left-handed kit plan shows when a set works out cheaper.
