Cobalt Alloy Scissor Steel

Understand the cobalt label before comparing salon shears.

Cobalt is a family description

“Cobalt alloy” can describe more than one steel recipe. It does not tell you the exact grade, edge feel or service interval on its own. Read the individual product listing for the stated material and blade shape.

Selected Juntetsu models use cobalt-family descriptions. Compare their lengths, handles and cutting purpose. A longer cutter for over-comb work and a short detail shear can both use a cobalt alloy but feel very different at the chair.

A simple buying order

  1. Choose the work you want the scissor to do.
  2. Select a manageable length and handle.
  3. Read the model’s blade and steel details.
  4. Check that you can keep the edge serviced.
