How Much Do Hairdressing Scissors Cost?

By SalonScissors editorial team Updated

Three cutting scissors side by side: Joewell Classic, Ichiro Ergo and Mina Sakura II.
Joewell Classic (A$499), Ichiro Ergo (A$199.95) and Mina Sakura II (A$129.95).

A proper pair starts at A$114.95. Here’s what more money buys, band by band.

How we chose: One pick per price band from our range, based on maker specs and listed options. We sell them and haven’t run cutting tests. Prices checked 26 October 2026.

What does each price band buy?

Five hair cutting scissors side by side: Mina Umi, Ichiro Ergo, Yasaka SA Classic, Joewell FX PRO and Kasho Design Master.
Mina Umi (A$114.95), Ichiro Ergo (A$199.95), Yasaka SA Classic (A$399), Joewell FX PRO (A$699) and Kasho Design Master (A$349).

Spending A$200 to A$500? The ten cutters picked by job put the Ichiro, Juntetsu, Kasho, Yasaka, Joewell and Kamisori pairs in that band side by side.

Barbers, the long cutters start low too: the Mina Dark Gem is A$134.95 in 6.5” or 7.0”, and the Ichiro Sword A$219.

Is a dearer pair better?

Not automatically. The same VG10 steel sits in our cutters from A$284.95 to A$680, so the difference is in the edge, the handle, the finish and the maker. The VG-10 guide shows three of them side by side. Spend more when you can name what you’re paying for, such as a slice edge, a straight handle or a longer blade.

If your pair has gone blunt, a sharpen is cheaper than any of these. Ask us for a quote with the model.

What do thinners and sets cost?
