By SalonScissors editorial team Updated
Ichiro and Juntetsu are independent brands with offset cutters, thinners and sets. Choose Ichiro if you cut left-handed or want a swivel thumb ring, and Juntetsu if you want level rings or a leather holster to go with your pair.
How we chose: We compared both brands by listed hands, handles, sizes and options. We sell both and haven’t run cutting tests. Reviewed 5 November 2026.
Ichiro vs Juntetsu at a glance
The table says what each brand lists on our product pages. It doesn’t say one is better, because the right pair depends on your hand and what you cut.
| Ichiro | Juntetsu | |
|---|---|---|
| Cutting hand | Right-handed, with left-handed options on several models | Right-handed cutters |
| Handle layouts | Offset, plus a swivel thumb ring on the Kawa | Offset, plus level rings on the Classic II |
| Long blades | The Sword, 6.0” to 7.0” | The Ergo, 6.0” to 7.0” |
| Texturisers | A 16-tooth texturiser and the Kawa in 14 or 30 teeth | Chomper texturisers in 10, 16 and 21 teeth |
| Sets | Cutter and thinner sets, plus master sets | Cutter and thinner sets, plus a master set |
| Beyond scissors | A feathering razor | A feathering razor and leather holsters, wallets and pouches |
You’ll find every model in the Ichiro range and the Juntetsu range. The brand profiles, Ichiro and Juntetsu, say where to start with each.
Which brand suits a left-handed stylist?
Ichiro. Its Rose Lefty is a left-handed cutter with a convex slice edge, and several other Ichiro models list a Left option, such as the Matte Black and Rose Gold. Juntetsu lists no left-handed cutter.

Our left-handed kit plan shows what to buy first if you cut with your left hand. A true left-handed pair has the blades reversed as well as the handle, so check the listing says so.
Which brand suits a stylist who likes level rings?
Juntetsu. The Classic II has symmetrical rings and a convex slice edge, in 5.25” and 5.75”. The adult Ichiro cutters we list have offset handles, and the Kawa adds a swivel thumb ring.
Keep in mind: level rings sit your thumb higher than an offset handle does, so a pair feels different at first if you’re used to one or the other. Our handle guide compares the layouts.

The same job, one cutter from each brand. Sizes and edges are as listed on each product page.
An everyday offset cutter. The Ichiro Ergo comes as a 5.5” convex slice cutter or a 6.0” micro-serrated one. The Juntetsu VG10 Offset has a convex blade in 4.5”, 5.0”, 5.5”, 6.0” and 7.0”.
| Ichiro Ergo | Juntetsu VG10 Offset | |
|---|---|---|
| Handle | Offset | Offset |
| Edge, as listed | Convex slice (5.5”) or micro-serrated (6.0”) | Convex blade |
| Sizes | 5.5” and 6.0” | 4.5” to 7.0” |
| Hand | Right | Right |
Pick the Ergo if you want to choose between a slice and a micro-serrated edge. Pick the VG10 Offset if you want a wider size choice, including a short detail cutter.

Both brands list matching thinners and cutter-and-thinner sets, so you can build a kit within one brand. Tooth count alone doesn’t tell you how much hair a thinner takes out, so read our cut ratio guide before you rely on it.
For a team or a full kit, the master sets add a second cutter. Our master set comparison covers three-piece sets, including Ichiro’s, and the texturising and thinning guide compares the toothed tools.
Which should you choose?

If neither brand fits, the scissor finder shortlists pairs by hand, size and budget, and Mina vs Ichiro compares Ichiro with a lower-priced brand.
Common questions
Is Ichiro better than Juntetsu?
Neither is better across the board. Ichiro lists left-handed options and a swivel thumb ring, and Juntetsu lists level-ring cutters and leather holsters. Choose by your hand, handle and the size you cut with.
Does Juntetsu make left-handed scissors?
We list no left-handed Juntetsu cutter. If you cut left-handed, look at Ichiro’s Rose Lefty or the left-handed collection.
Which brand has more sizes?
It depends on the model. The Juntetsu VG10 Offset runs from 4.5” to 7.0”, while the Ichiro Ergo comes in 5.5” and 6.0”. Compare the exact model you’re considering.
Can I mix brands in one kit?
Yes, many stylists do. Check that the two handles feel alike, so your hand doesn’t have to change grip between tools.
