Where to Buy Hair Scissors by Country: A Stylist's Guide

By SalonScissors editorial team Updated

Three Mina Umi listings side by side: a single cutter, a cutter and thinner set, and a three-piece set with two cutters and a thinner.
One range name can be a cutter, a pair or a set. Whichever country you buy in, compare the exact option. Catalogue photo.

Buy from a store in your own country first, because delivery, returns and servicing are simpler when the pair doesn’t cross a border. This page lists the ShearAlliance stores for seven countries and gives you a checklist for choosing between them.

How we chose: Members come from our ShearAlliance page, grouped by country. Names and web addresses checked 5 November 2026. It’s not a ranking, and we haven’t run tests.

Which hair scissor stores are there in each country?

Here is every store we list, by country. The order inside a country is alphabetical, and where two stores share a name the country follows it.

Where can you buy hair scissors in Australia?

Australia has the most choice, with six stores in the table. Each one sets its own range, delivery and returns, so open two or three and compare the same model side by side.

SalonScissors delivers to Australian addresses only (see our shipping page). If you’re choosing for a salon team, our guide to buying for a salon team covers sizes, hands and backups. Barbers can start with BarberScissors, and anyone who wants to go deeper on Japanese brands can read the guides at JapanShears.

Where can you buy hair scissors in New Zealand?

Three New Zealand sites are in the table: Hair Scissors (New Zealand), Japan Scissors NZ and Scissor Hub (New Zealand). Check each one’s delivery page for your address, and read the returns and warranty pages before you order. Our New Zealand buying guide goes through the checks in more detail.

An Australian store may or may not deliver across the Tasman, so don’t assume. The Top 9 list has both countries side by side: online hair scissor stores in AU and NZ.

Where can you buy hair scissors in the UK, the USA and Canada?

The UK, the USA and Canada each have one store in the table: Japan Scissors UK, JP Scissors and Japan Scissor Shop. With one store per country, the choice is less about comparing stores and more about checking that the store suits you.

Read the model, size and hand on the listing, then find the returns and warranty pages. If the listing doesn’t say which hand a pair is made for, ask before you buy. Our size guide explains what the inch size measures, whichever country you’re in.

Where can you buy hair scissors in France and Italy?

France and Italy each have a store written in the local language: Ciseaux Japon in French and Forbici Giappone in Italian. Use your browser’s translate feature if you need it, and keep the model name handy, since model names stay the same across languages.

Our glossary of scissor terms lists the English words you’ll meet on a spec sheet, such as convex edge, offset handle and tooth count. They help when you’re matching a French or Italian listing to a model you’ve read about.

How do you choose a store?

Run the same five checks on every store, in the same order. It takes a couple of minutes per store and it’s the fairest way to compare.

  1. The exact model, size and hand

A listing should name the model, give the length in inches, state right- or left-handed and say what’s included: one cutter, a pair or a set. If anything’s missing, ask.

  2. Returns and warranty

Read both pages before you pay. Look at the change-of-mind rules, who pays postage and how a fault is handled.

  3. Sharpening or service

Look for a page on it, even if you don’t need it yet. Every working pair needs a service eventually. Our care hub covers what to do between services.

  4. Delivery to your country

Check that the store delivers to your address and read the checkout total before you confirm. Check any extra charges and the delivery terms on the store’s own pages.

  5. A way to reach a person

An email address, a form or a phone number, and some business details. Send one question about a model first and see how it’s answered.

What changes when you buy from another country?

Mostly delivery and returns. A pair that crosses a border has more steps to go wrong, so the store’s delivery and returns pages matter more, not less.

Look at the full total at checkout, and ask the store before you order if a page doesn’t say what happens when a pair needs to go back. Our service and return check lists what to do when a pair arrives or comes back from a service.

Questions people ask

Can I buy hair scissors from a store in another country?

Some stores deliver overseas and some don’t. Each store sets its own delivery countries, so check its delivery page and the checkout total before you pay.

Does SalonScissors deliver outside Australia?

No. SalonScissors delivers to Australian addresses only, and its shipping page has the details. Stylists in other countries can use the table above.

Which store should I choose for a first pair?

This list doesn’t rank stores. Start with a store that delivers to you, then use the five checks. Our first-pair mistakes guide covers what first-time buyers miss.

Are the French and Italian stores in English?

No. Ciseaux Japon is in French and Forbici Giappone is in Italian. Use a translation tool if you need one, and check the model name and size against the maker’s own page.

How do I know which hand a pair is?

The listing should say. A true left-handed pair has the blades reversed as well as the handle, and our left-handed guide explains the difference.
